The CrossFit Open
Hello you awesome people!
“Where grassroots meets greatness: Compete with hundreds of thousands of athletes in five workouts over five weeks. Do it for fun, your affiliate family, fitness or to reach regionals and fight for a chance to make it to the CrossFit Games.”
I’m struggling to express how enjoyable The Open is every year, so much so that I’ve re-written this a number of times and still can’t express myself.
Maybe the best thing is say that people surprise themselves every year during The Open by doing ‘the impossible’. On top of that it provides a drive for people to improve year-on-year and it represents an amazing testing ground where you can compare yourself with hundreds of thousands of people around the world!
Here’s a great article explaining more.
There will be a weekly workout to complete between Thursday night and Monday afternoon for 5 weeks and we’ll be running the Open workouts every Saturday from February 25th until March 25th.
The atmosphere during the workouts is fantastic and you’ll be be delighted that you signed up.
To register go here and select CrossFit UV as your box (that’s CrossFit for gym) and CrossFit UV as your team (HQ has promised that we’ll be able to put up our logos shortly).
It’s 30 days until Open Season!
Fergus and the team at CrossFit UV
How we’ll be running The Open.
We’ll choose four Captains (I have people in mind but if you want to be one drop Fergus a line before this Saturday).
Each Captain chooses a team name.
Certain athletes will be seeded and randomly placed on teams by coaches (how this is done will be discussed with the Captains). The goal of this is to make the competition as even as possible.
After that each Captain will be allowed to recruit from the gym.
Captains can bribe, coerce or otherwise attempt to sign up any member for their team. Members sign up on the Games site to indicate their intention to compete. Captains report the recruitment of each athlete in a whattsapp group to the coaches so two teams don’t lay claim to the same person.
Teams will be awarded points based on where they place across all 5 workouts.
