Originally from Cork (in Ireland), Fergus has been involved in sports all his life; everything from hurling and Gaelic football to soccer, rock climbing, eventing, and show jumping. He loves to be active and can always be relied upon to bring high energy and lots of humor to any situation (though we can’t guarantee the quality of the jokes!). Fergus fell in love with fitness when he was 15 after seeing how much it did for his confidence (and, most importantly, his abs!). Although fitness was his first love, he went into corporate banking (for 11 years) after finishing his business degree, where he got firsthand experience of working in a demanding career while trying to stay fit and healthy. Fitness remained his passion, and while living in England, he opened his first gym in 2011 and his second in 2013 after moving to London. This is where he met the beautiful Jolina (a Markham lady) and decided to chase her halfway across the world to open UV in July 2016; the rest, as they say, is history…

I joined CrossFit UV almost 2 years ago as a member and loved it so much that I am now a coach!

I fell in love with the variety of movements, skills and the technical beauty of olympic lifting. Also just give me a barbell and any squat movement, I am the happiest person in the gym.

I spent my school years playing basketball and volleyball. I also took part in dragon boating for 9 years and have a background in power lifting.

However, I struggled to get to the gym consistently and it was often a means to lose weight.

For a long time I had a rollercoaster relationship with both nutrition and fitness. Compounded with mental health struggles, I knew something needed to change.

CrossFit always felt intimating but a few years ago I stepped into my first CrossFit and Strength and Conditioning gym and what I discovered was a community of people who were so welcoming, all with different backgrounds and different fitness journeys. I also rediscovered the barbell and how much fun it is to lift heavy and get stronger for myself and not just to lose weight.

I currently have my CrossFit Level 1 Trainer. I am working towards my CrossFit Level 2 and some additional Olympic Lifting courses and certification. I currently teach the CrossFit Teens class and have a passion for women’s and senior’s health and fitness.

Prior to coaching at CrossFit UV, I spent over 20 years in customer facing roles as a people leader in the corporate space. My favourite part of my job was always around mentoring and helping people be the best version of themselves.

This absolutely translates into the gym and nothing motivates me more than helping others reach their daily and long term goals.

Everyone’s fitness journey is different and it is extremely important to me that we meet you where you are at and have an inclusive approach as part of your journey.

Hey, I’m Coach Jason!

I’m a CrossFit Level 2 Trainer and all around athlete.

I grew up mostly playing basketball but spent my school years playing a variety of sports including badminton, curling and varsity rugby at the University of Waterloo (Go Warriors! ).

A big life goal of mine is to stay in good enough shape to accept any physical challenge without worry. Whether it’s a race, a new sport or hypothetically beating up my future kid’s friends’ dads, I’m ready to go after a 5-min warm-up.

I stumbled upon CrossFit 10 years ago and loved the challenge of learning new movements!

I had so much fun learning Olympic lifting and gymnastics that I became a CrossFit coach 5 years ago. I’ve loved helping members chase the high of unlocking new skills and hearing about how that carries over to life outside the gym, like better sports performance or endless playtime with their kids!

I’m Jota! A 30-year-old Brazilian completely in love with human movement (in every possible aspect: physical, mental, social, emotional, spiritual…).

When I was 6 months old, my mother signed me up for swimming lessons, and I’ve been training ever since. Soccer (as a good Brazilian), swimming, volleyball, and capoeira were some of the sports I practiced most during my childhood and adolescence.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, a postgraduate degree in Exercise Physiology, Level 2 CrossFit (soon Level 3), and several courses in Olympic Weightlifting and Gymnastics focused on CrossFit.

In 2015, I discovered CrossFit, got hooked, and never looked back. I was amazed by the infinite variety of movements we could combine to make workouts broader, more dynamic, and inclusive.

In my opinion, a coach’s journey of improvement is endless. We can ALWAYS get better at something.

I consider myself an honest, outgoing, dedicated person, and passionate about life! My friends often say I have the energy of 5 Golden Retrievers.

I am a Level 1 CrossFit Trainer as well as a Registered Physiotherapist.

I fell in love with CrossFit after “retiring” from my tennis career where I competed internationally as a junior, followed by four years of NCAA tennis at Lincoln Memorial University where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with a Minor in Strength and Conditioning.

I then went on to complete my Master of Science in Physiotherapy at the University of Toronto. With an extensive background in sport and movement of all kinds, my emphasis in coaching is to have you move with quality and near-perfect technique to keep you in the gym and off my physio table.

Funny enough, CrossFit UV was the first CrossFit gym I ever stepped foot in back in 2018, and it looks like they can’t get rid of me!

The community at UV found me during a time of big change (hanging up my rackets) and lots of stress (going through physiotherapy school) and offered not only physical support to keep me strong and healthy, but emotional support to keep me sane.

I’ve coached tennis since I was 15 years old, so naturally, coaching CrossFit was a no-brainer. I love helping each and every single athlete improve, work towards and achieve their goals, but most importantly, I love watching athletes fall in love with what their bodies are able to do!

Can’t wait to meet y’all at the bar(bell) 😉
